Today was a beach day at the request of the departing friends. Carrie and Annelle were already scheduled to go home tomorrow but it just happened that tomorrow was also the day that Lauri and Gina could get a flight off of the island that coordinated with a flight home.
Yesterday we were searching for a beach recommended to us but Elias called Golden Beach. We found Haraki Beach and were satisfied with that but we wondered about the elusive Golden Beach. We attempted to find it on our way home but were unsuccessful.
Today we plugged the beach name into Athena and she came up with directions right onto the golden sand. We LOVE Athena. We also loved Golden Beach!! Perfect sized little cove, an uncrowded north end, warm water, beautiful golden brown sand and some modern day pictographs carved into the sandstone cliffs.
Steps away from where we set up our umbrellas was a water sports shack. They have a boat that you can tube, ski or wakeboard behind. Gina decided she wanted to wakeboard in Greece so she paid her 25 euro (5 euro discount because she already knew how so didn't require lessons) and donned a life jacket. The boat drivers tried to pop her out of the water too fast the first time but the second time she was a hooting, hollering success!
Inspired, Carrie decided to try her hand (feet?) at waterskiing. She neglected to take her frozen shoulder in to consideration and it proved to be her downfall. She tried to get up four times but was unsuccessful because every time shoulder strength was required her shoulder gave out. I got to have a fun ride in the ski boat though (I was the designated photographer). I have to say that blue of the sea as seen from that boat was simply amazing and makes me realize why the rich and famous spend time cruising the Mediterranean!!!!
At the end of the day one carload of the group went to the butcher to pick up some meat to BBQ. Gina was in that group and she rolled her ankle / foot somehow as she got out of the car. The injury required immediate ice and nurse Lauri had to make a trip to the pharmacy for an ace bandage so Gina could attempt to walk to the plane the next day.
I hung out with Carrie as she packed her bags, soaking in every minute before we had to part. We have spent the last month together almost 24/7 and still we want more time together!
We did a quick photo shoot in our Tavi and Beege shirts (that she made) and the skirts that we bought in Macedonia. The rest of the group commented that we really did look like the "doubles" that our cabana boy from earlier in the week had called us!
