Waking up in Budapest rather than Frankfurt was such a relief! We spent our first day as we had planned and promised ourselves we would... No plan, no rushing around, just a leisurely stroll around the city, getting lost so that we could better find our way in the future. All the getting lost part takes is a trip down into the metro. That is always the way to get yourself completely turned around and disoriented. It's a guaranteed way to lose your sense of direction.
The day greeted us with rain. Not a real rain, just a "should I put the umbrella up or not" type of rain. A " gee, am I glad I straightened my hair" type of rain (being facetious here!)
We met with our landlord to take care of the details she recognized we were too tired to take care of the previous evening. We had her book massage appointments at the famous Szchenyi Baths for us and we paid her the 57,000 forints we owed her for our apartment (yikes, sounds like a fortune, doesn't it??? It's actually equal to about $55.00 per night) With our business complete we headed out on our wander.
We roamed the happening street Vatci Utca, and crossed the Szchenyi Bridge which took us from Pest into Buda.(Budapest is actually two cities divided by the Danube River with Buda on the west side and Pest on the east) the view of Pest from the opposite side is really beautiful. After finding ourselves again we went in search of replacement sunglasses for Tom who gifted some lucky person with his Oakley sunglasses (lost in all the hoopla at the Frankfurt airport). We headed to the grocery for food to stock the apartment, ate a simple dinner and watched a TV show Tom had loaded on his IPad (this part took place through closed eyelids for both of us, still unbelievably jet lagged). Big plans for tomorrow!
