Happy Birthday Tom! Saturday June 29, 2013

We made the two hour drive from Seattle to The Canadian border crossing with only minor delays due to Seattle traffic. We laughed as a well trained blackbird chose our car as his vehicular of choice to beg from. He stood next to our car and stared at me as we waited for the border checkpoint. Every time our car inched forward he hopped along side looking for crumbs. I finally relented and gave him a bite of apple core. He nibbled at it and then waited expectantly for something better. When he got the second bite of apple he apparently decided to go in search of someone with Doritos instead ;)

Someone ( who shall remain nameless) made a joke about the border agent rummaging through the trunk of the car in front of us... Karma being the bitch that she is, we were questioned closely by said agent and promptly sent to secondary inspection...they took our passports and sent us inside the building to wait. And wait.. And wait... as we stared at signs that informed us we were being video recorded... And voice recorded, and that is would be used against us... Ok, call us nervous at this point. The rest of this story has been suppressed at the request of the innocent... You know, what happens in Canada stays in Canada... but suffice it to say we were finally released, with permission to enter Canada. By unspoken agreement by all in the vehicle, we waited about 15 minutes and put multiple kilometers between us and the border before we all began to talk at once about our experience....

Our first order of business upon arrival in Vancouver was a grocery expedition to Costco Canada. We stocked up on most of the necessities and headed up the glorious Sea to Sky Highway bound for Whistler, BC.

After a short time in the car we decided lunch was necessary and I chose the town of Horseshoe Bay as our destination . Doesn't Horseshoe Bay just sound like the type of place your should stop for lunch on vacation??? Well, it was a winner as the town itself is charming, and the restaurant we chose flawlessly served us four delectable meals. Tomato and gin soup, oyster po'boy sandwich and fresh caught fish and chips, another YUM meal. Sue and Roger treated as a birthday gift for Tom. Thanks guys!  After a waterfront wander we hit the road. We made a couple of viewpoint stops along the way and scouted destinations for the following week's adventures.

We found the check in office for out resort and picked up the keys to a beautiful two story, two bedroom, ski resort condo in the heart of Whistler.
