It happened on the way to Owen Beach Friday June 28, 2013

This morning as we hit the road for Seattle I googled "things to do between Portland and Seattle" I came up with a beach named Owen Beach.
It is a driftwood filled beach, (which was my memory from previous trips here)of most beaches in the area. While not the huge windswept beaches from my memory, Tom and I enjoyed shooting pictures of the driftwood and we enjoyed the waterfront walk to get there and back to our car.
A funny thing happened on our way to Owen Beach though...

We followed our directions to the beach and as we approached (a few miles from the beach) we began to see signs that said "Taste parking" Hmn... They must be having a restaurant taste festival this weekend... The signs became more frequent and suddenly, with out warning we were funneled into a line for Taste parking. We had fallen into a local festival that was already in full swing at noon on Friday. We were able to get out of line for parking and lucked into a parking spot 30 feet away... for free. We parked and found a local police officer happy to give us directions to the beach we were in search of. I enjoyed listening to the band play in the distance as we walked toward our destination. The area was enjoying unseasonably warm and sunny weather and the boardwalk stroll with Mt. Rainer at our back was a great way to spend some time until we met Sue and Roger.

Back in the car we drove to our hotel where Sue and Roger had already arrived. We were all able to check in early so we stashed our bags and jumped in the car to drive to Snowhomish  (at Rogers's suggestion) to see the Snowhomish Waterfall. It was another spectacular waterfall to add to our collection.

Following the waterfall excursion we took the car back to the hotel and walked across the street where we purchased light rail tickets into Seattle. We shared the train with Seattle Mariners and Chicago Cubs fans on their way to a game.

Our first stop was the oldest Starbucks. This was a special excursion for Tom, the Starbucks devotee. Like a kid in a candy store he grinned his way through the entire experience. Sue and Roger and I were happy to get to experience it with him. Drinks and souvenir mugs in hand we headed ut to explore the Seattle waterfront at sunset.

We stumbled upon an Indian/Nepalese restaurant where we decided to have dinner. What a great call! Tom tried the goat and loved it, Roger couldn't say enough good things about his mussels in curry sauce and Sue and I each chose tasty vegetarian dishes. Absolutely delish!

On the waterfront we admired the Seattle skyline and checked out the new London Eye like Ferris wheel that was celebrating its first birthday the following day.
