LIVE! From Venice

On our final evening in Venice, I made arrangements with my sister Carrie to Skype her at sunset.

For those who aren’t familiar with Skype, it is perhaps the best “connection” tool since the invention of the telephone. If I knew how to include a hyperlink in here I would, but since I don’t have that skill, just go to www.skype.com to check it out. It is a free computer to computer video calling system. If you have Skype and the other person has Skype, you can “Skype” each other.

Back to Skyping with Carrie;

I took my computer down to the water front, set myself up next to the gondolas, and “called” her. (I should add that I had a USB stick internet connection that came with our apartment) It was very fun, and you can imagine the looks I got from passersby. I gave her a spin tour of the waterfront of Venice. Very, very cool.

Our last day was filled with wandering, church visiting, and photography, as usual. After four days of walking all of the neighborhoods, we began to see people we “knew” (met/talked to in some way). It’s actually a pretty small place minus all of the tourists in for the day.

It boggles my mind to think about all of the time it will take to go through all of our photos. Between us we probably have about 40 gigs of memory cards full already, and we have a week left!

Tomorrow we leave our beautiful Venetian apartment for a place between Florence and Seina. We have our train tickets in hand and will be there by 2:30 in the afternoon.

As an update on my wounds from the fall in Montenegro, my ankle seems fine, my skinned knee is moving past the really painful into the itchy stage, and my wrist…. thinking it will require a Doctor visit when we get home. No swelling to speak of and not painful all of the time, but when I move it the wrong way, yikes. Something is not right. The cold is pretty much over with, with just the cruddy after cough.

Goodbye beautiful Venice!
