Spent the day at beautiful, medieval Siena. 30K drive took about two hours, but what a gorgeous drive. The countryside is everything I expected it to be... vineyards and olive groves as far as the eye can see.
Our B&B is a nice respite at the end of a long day. We have a full Italian breakfast every morning, rather than the standard croissant and coffee. We have had a croissant or pastry, corn flakes (with cold milk), yogurt, toast with homemade peach jam and homegrown honey. OJ and coffee/tea with hot milk to drink. We're spoiled.
We ate dinner at a restaurant recommended by Simonetta the first evening.True Tuscan Italian food. Yum, yum. I had a white bean salad, and tagliatelle with local fungi, and Tom ate a type of steak roastedin a tomato sauce, and roasted potatoes. Excellent meal.
The only downfall is the drive to our place. The final four kilometers is a dirt road, many times single track. Oh, and there is a stone quarry (read big trucks coming and going frequently) on the way. Won't miss the road.
