A "rest" day June 9, 2013

We are calling today a rest day because we are sticking close to home, although I wouldn't really call what we have been doing this morning "resting".
We are doing laundry,  and chopping the 2 large bunches of rhubarb from yesterday's farmers market. The rhubarb is in the process of becoming rhubarb sauce ( a favorite from childhood for both of us), and we have also created a rhubarb crumble( which is baking and smelling delicious as I type this)
We are also waiting for a call from the resort manager with information about a local Hurling match. Hurling is a uniquely
After chores we are off in search of Internet so we can Skype/FaceTime the grand kids, and I can post to my blog.

Later the same day....
We have just come from our first Hurling game and we really enjoyed it! It is fast and interesting, and a game all it's own. The Hurley is the stick they use, reminiscent of a shorter handled, hockey stick ( other end of the stick is shorter too). The ball is about the size/ hardness of a baseball. The players can catch a speeding ball with bare hands and they can hit it with the Hurley on the ground or mid air. The score comes when someone makes a goal into a net at either end of the field. 3 points in the net, 1 point over the net. The spectators aren't protect from play at all so we were vigilant while watching the game. We saw one child get hit with a ball and one player got his hand caught mid air between his Hurley and his opponents Hurley.OUCH.

This evening we are taking  a bus provided by a local pub to the pub for dinner and an evening of "Trad". This is what the Irish call their traditional music. Should be a fun evening!
