Where the boys are June 6, 2013

Ready for a slower paced day we headed to the town north of our little town of Scarriff, named Mount Shannon. We were in search of a coffee shop to sit and have a cup of tea/coffee and wile away the morning looking at maps and planning our time. Everything was closed so we headed south to Ballina/Killaloe, two sister towns on either side of the Shannon River.

On the way we stopped to take pictures of one of the many bucolic scenes that surround us here.... happy cows lazing around in the sunshine, surrounded by white daisies and yellow buttercups. I even saw a cow with her face turned to the sun, eyes closed, chin up, and a contented smile on her face!

We parked in Ballina and made our way to a pub with an outdoor seating area. We decided lunch was in order so we shared a Greek salad (€13. yikes!) and some fries. Water for the driver and a Guinness for me (the first for the trip).

While  we lunched and planned our days we saw three boys whom appeared to be naked walking down the bridge that crosses the river. We soon realized they were in swim trunks as they climbed to the heights of the bridge and began to jump, dive, leap frog into the river.  We enjoyed photographing them at their antics.

Later in the afternoon we meandered through town taking pictures and looking in the local Polish grocery store. We purchased a few things and then continued our wander through town. As we went to cross the bridge a larger, older group of boys had begun to gather for some Irish style cliff diving. More laughter ensued as they did pull ups from the bridge before they jumped, and performed all sorts of tricks for the local girls on the shore, including swimming in their "Calvin Kleins".

As we drove out of town we saw three young teen boys, walking down the road, poking and shoving each other. Suddenly one of the boys dropped trou and mooned us as we passed!!!

Yesterday our driver Rory told us that the cows are "giddy" at this time of year. Apparently so are the teen aged boys!!!
