Rocky start, but we ended in "Heaven"

We woke up to a misty morning outside our hostel. Not a good sign since it was a travel day. That meant possibly dragging backpacks around in the rain. The weather gods were with us though and we made it safely to our destination without getting wet.

Well, I spoke too soon regarding our good fortune with public transportation.

We were up and ready early this morning so we headed to the metro to take the underground to the bus station. Flawless. When we arrived at the station, we went in search of our bus. We went out of the station and were unable to locate the ticket office. Tom left me outside with the bags while he went to buy tickets back in the metro station. 20 minutes. Hmn, it’s taking awhile. 40 minutes… hmn. Should I be worried? What if something happened to him? 50 minutes. OK. Worried. I can’t go look for him.. What if he comes back and I am gone? Besides, Ican’t carry my bags and his too…1 hour and 5 minutes…Ok, did he fall down the stairs? Has the ambulance taken him to a hospital? Should I ask someone to call the police? What the heck am I going to do with these bags while I find help? It’s 15 minutes until our bus leaves and no Tom. Ah! Thank goodness, there he is! Why is he frowning, after all he hasn’t fallen down the stairs and ended up in a Czech hospital right??? Ah. The bus is sold out. Hmn. Didn’t see that one coming.

Back on the metro, past the stop we got on at, to go to another station with a bus to our destination.. Two hours after the first bus was supposed to leave. Ah well, we find the ticket office with the help of some nice folks willing to practice their English (many are not). Ticket available. Yay! Wait two hours, ride three hours, and we are here.

Cesky Krumlov! A short 10 minute walk to our hostel and we are in Hostel Heaven! What a cute place! It is pure personality and style. I showed Tom this place online after I had booked it and his first comment upon seeing photos was “I love the red room, I really hope we get the red room!” When Kate, the Aussie at the desk said“you‘re in the red room“ We both laughed. See? Wishes do come true! And is it ever adorable.

We are the only Americans here. Everyone else is Asian or Aussie, including both of the young women that are running the place. We had a great conversation in the common room with the various Australians. So fun to hear everyone’s story.

After we settled in we headed out with the intention of getting some groceries. The charm of this town grabbed us and drew us in and we ended up wandering through town as the sun was setting over the castle tower. The castle here is so very different than anything we have seen so far. I can’t wait to see more in the daylight.

Tom and I ate dinner at a vegetarian restaurant that had outdoor tables set up alongside the river. As we ate we watched the sun setting beyond the castle, listened to the tower clock ring (gong?) 6pm, and enjoyed the gurgling of the river as it flowed past our table. Geesh, and we could be at home working…
