A strike means disappointment Tuesday, October 25

Lauri, Deiann and I had a slow morning today as we all needed alittle R&R. JoBeth was out the door early. She was determined to see the catacombs (there was a 2 hour line a few days before.) and to make another foray to a Harley store.
We all met up at the Musee d Orsay, excited to see their brand new Impressionist wing. We had heard a rumor that the staff was striking over the lack of staff for the new square footage of the museum. We got online the night before to be sure it would be open. The news reported a strike the opening day (last Thursday) but there were no further reports, so we went, sure it had been short lived. Wrong. The museum, second only to the Louve, that I had my heart set on, was CLOSED. I'm having trouble getting over that one.
Our next stop made jup for the disappointment a bit. We went to the truley unbelievable Paris Opera House. Excess doesn't begin to cover it. Every place you look is something unbelievably gorgeous, gilt and glowing. The icing on the cake is the ceiling of the Opera. It is a Chagall painting depicting famous sights in Paris. Really beautiful.
Rain ahd been predicted for Tuesday, and it had rained early in the morning before we were up. We took rain gear with just in case however. When we arrived at the Opera it was warm and I was kicking myself for having brought all of the warm gear. We went inside and toured the building. When we arrived on the top floor there are great views of the area, so we went to the windows for a look. POURING DOWN RAIN! SIDEWAYS!! By the time we finished with the gift shop it had stopped and we were treated to a beautiful double rainbow. A nice bit of luck avoiding the storm.
Our next stop was the Lafayette Department Store. The store takes up several city blocks, several buildings and has 7 stories of amazing shopping. We were headed for food and found it in the form of an organic restaurant on the 3rd floor. Finally a little veggie variety for my diet. After we ate some of us shopped a bit, some of us took in the spectacular view.
Our final destination was Sacre` Cour another beautiful church with a picture postcard view. Our goal was to reach it in time for the sunset. We took the funicular up to the top and we arrived in plenty of time for the sunset show.  JoBeth wandered the town while the rest of us sat on the stairs of the church and listened to an Italian guy sing in Italian, French, Spanish and German. He spoke English to introduce the songs. We enjoyed his music and purchased his CD as a memory, all while to sunset over Paris, right before our appreciative eyes.
Luck was with us as we toured the Sacre` Cour.... the following day the Pope was scheduled to visit the church. Our chances of getting anywhere near the place would have been ZERO!
As we left the area we did a little souvenier shopping and JoBeth and I risked the automated toilette once again. This time I was smart enough not to touch anything and I survived the experience without embarassing myself!!!
On another note, I am back to where I started with my body disfunctions :( In addition to all of the other troubles, I now have a rash on my torso and hives all over my body.... I have lost at least 15 lbs since this began, and have resorted to wearing two pairs of pants because my money belt is no longer enough to hold up one pair. I am a physical disaster in need of a serious doctor's visit.
