Five beaches, one day. July 18, 2014

We spent the day beach hopping today. I found a list of suggested beaches located on Chalkadiki on Trip Advisor and we decided to follow the list and see some of the best this area has to offer.

I am not sure who made the last but we certainly didn't agree with many of the choices. The first two beaches that we went to were very crowded (Polychronos, Hanioto). Full of tourists and locals all trying to share the same small patch of sand. We stayed long enough to walk the boardwalk and check out the situation before moving on. Carrie picked up a few souvenirs at the first location.

We hit the jackpot with beach number three. It was next to and possibly part of Golden Beach. We took a side road and drove down to a natural somewhat wild beach. People were free camping in amongst the trees and it was a beautiful location. We enjoyed swimming in the glorious blue water and we spent time walking the beach looking for the perfect small pebbles to take home as souvenirs, and also searching for the somewhat elusive beach glass. I broke out my underwater camera so that we could try to video each other swimming underwater in this salty buoyant sea.

Beach number four, Loutra, was a small cove with a rock jetty along one side and we enjoyed a seaside picnic looking out at the beautiful scenery.

Our fifth location, Poseidei, took us down to the very end of the peninsula. The scenery was much more natural and wild than the tourist filled zone in the northern and central part of the peninsula. This area also seems to be the popular beach camping area of Chalkidiki. We saw hundreds of tents in the  established campground in addition to the free campers.

We decided to have Athena help us find our way back to our local home. She gave us directions that started out on a dirt road and the dirt road progressed to a farmers olive grove local road, and then it became a rutted dirt path, and finally it became so narrow and rutted that Annelle had  to get out of the car to move a large rock so we could proceed down the road! Hilarity ensued as Carrie managed to maneuver the car to safety. What is a day without a bit of adventure?
