We woke up and made our way down to the beach in the morning. The beach consisted of a cement wall at the edge of the lake, a cement sidewalk and a narrow gravel area. There were already locals sunning themselves when we arrived at 9 am. We took some pictures and laid down on our towels for a little sun before we had to be in the car for the drive back to Florina and then on to Chalkadiki.
There was a group of local ladies in their 70's having a lively visit and their conversation formed the background noise (in addition to the sounds of people out on the lake) as we soaked up the post rainy day sunshine.
With a noon departure time we repacked the backpacks and met up with Stefan for the drive back to Florina. On the drive back we were joined by Stefan's girlfriend which caused complications in the delicate balance of backseat barfers who had already worked out the seating arrangements prior to the trip.
We were extremely pleased to find our rental car safe and as we left it, parked near the bus station a few days before. We suffered our first loss during these moments though. At some point my pack able cooler bag was left behind... With several meals inside. It was full to bursting and somehow, somewhere it was overlooked and is gone forever.
After a two hour ride from Macedonia, and with a 3+ hour drive ahead of us we decided to stop in Edessa which has some semi famous waterfalls. We drove the hour to Edessa and spent an hour or so seeing the falls from the front and from behind. The biggest falls has a cave full of stalagmites and stalagtites behind it that you can walk into, and it also has an are that you can actually walk behind the falls. The spray from the falls was refreshing on the warm day.
We arrived on Chalkadiki at about 8:30 pm, and we were disappointed to see that it was just a bit too dark to appreciate our view of the sea from our balcony. Something to wake up to tomorrow!
