Drama in Cesky Krumlov

What’s a day without drama?

Woke up this morning with the plan that we would do our grocery shopping before we set out to see the town in the daylight. Sweater, check. Camera, check. Wallet…. Wallet??? #$%^ no wallet. Before we flew to Czech Republic I was very organized, with all of my “stuff” in my camera bag. Tom and I condensed our things so we could meet the flight standards. Condensing meant getting rid of my camera bag (the place I put my “stuff” remember?) I kept saying “I need a bag to carry stuff in”, and I kept not finding one. Fast forward to our first day in Cesky Krumlov, and no wallet. Lat seen, it was in my pant pocket on our way to the Vegetarian restaurant. I was certain I must have dropped it there and I hoped to find it, intact there. It didn’t make sense to pass the Police station that we saw along the way. I thought maybe someone may have found it and turned it in.(I am an eternal optimist). The policewoman spoke no English, but she offered that she spoke German. Do you think I could think of the German word for wallet? Too easy. I told her I had lost something and asked Tom for his wallet to use as a visual aid. Nope. No wallet turned in. Two stops at the two stores I had window shopped the night before. Nope, no wallet, but they were properly horrified when I said “I lost my identification papers (didn’t know how to say driver’s license in Czech) Final stop, veggie restaurant. While I explained my dilemma, Tom walked down to the river where we had eaten dinner (and I took bunches of photos while standing, kneeling and squatting down… all allowing plenty of opportunity to lose the wallet). Hooray! Success! My wallet in the dirt, everything still in place with only a cracked mirror to tell the tale.

During the entire ordeal I was mad at myself for not getting a bag to carry it around in, but I was never really worried about the lost stuff. After the day before, when I worried about losing Tom; some cash, credit cards and my license didn’t seem like that big of a deal…..although I would have hated to lose my Scottish library card!
