On the way to Ancient Corinth we passed through modern Corinth and we spotted a statue of Pegasus near a large fountain. We decided to stop on our return trip. Parking was at a premium and we spotted someone getting in their car in the parking lot. Carrie pulled to the right to allow other cars to pass on the left while we waited for the persons to back out. As that was happening, a BMW pulled past us and then tried to back into the spot we were waiting for! I yelled "GO, GO! Block him so he can't steal our spot!" thinking Carrie would pull up so that the guy in the BMW couldn't snake our spot as he intended. She shot forward and whipped into the spot as he began to back up. He parked illegally across from us, got out of his car and began to lecture (curse??) us in Greek. I looked him in the eye and gave it right back to him telling him the real facts. We all knew it was our parking spot! With a shocked look on his face he shut right up and walked away. I don't know if it was because three women got out to face him or if he didn't expect us to have anything to say in return or what the reason but we all knew exactly what had just transpired. We were all pumped up with excited energy after that encounter. The Greek people, with exception of that event have been very kind and welcoming.
We arrived back "home" in time to change our clothes and head to the spa where we had a deluxe package booked. Our treatment included an hour in the hammam (including various warm temperature pools with powerful bubbles for foot massage, waterfalls pouring from decorative pipes to massage your head, shoulders and neck. There was a sauna and a steam room, and outdoor pool with similar features. We went to the reception area and there were two young women and one big hairy Greek man sitting in the reception area. I suspected that the two women were tow of the massage therapists and that the guy was one of their boyfriends. The two women promptly called the three of us to follow them upstairs. When we arrived up stairs they seated us for a few minutes and while we waited BHGG (big hairy Greek guy) suddenly appeared. With his arrival Carrie and Annelle panicked. Neither one of them wanted to be stuck with BHGG! I told them to go with the women and I would take him. YIKES! We went to the massage room and lots of modesty from the American woman vs. unabashed naturalness expected by the masseuse ensued!!! Let's just say there are no sheets involved in a Greek massage, however BHGG found a suitable towel. I was happy to have a great salt scrub followed by a nice massage, especially when I heard the massage tale from Carrie and Annelle. The expectation for modesty were the same in their room but they ended up with their massage therapist coming and going while leaving the door open to every passer by including BHGG who came looking for a towel!!!! I'm thinking I made the best choice in the end!
After the spa and dinner we walked down to the Gulf so that I could swim. We lazed around on the beach in the warm summer night air before joining the locals (and thousands of Athenians in town for the weekend) on their boardwalk promenade. We had ice cream when we couldn't find gelato and we were off to bed.
